Two PRIMIR Studies
Currently Underway
PRIMIR, the Print Industries Market Information
and Research Organization, has two studies under-
way for completion by the end of 2013.
The first,
UV/EB Curing Technologies in Printing,
is being done, according to PRIMIR, because there is
limited data and information available about the use
of UV and EB curing technologies in print markets.
This new PRIMIR study will investigate the applica-
tion of these technologies in the various print mar-
kets and end-use segments, as well as the barriers,
drivers, and opportunities for further adoption in
North America and Europe. The study findings will be
presented at the PRIMIR 2013 Winter meeting, De-
cember 9-11, in Chicago, Illinois.
Also to be presented during the December meeting
are findings from another research study,
Packaging
in Emerging Markets (Latin America and Asia-Pa-
cific)
. According to PRIMIR, the production of indus-
trial and consumer products in emerging markets
will influence many facets of the printing and pack-
aging industry. This changing landscape has a high
potential to change the current global manufacturing
environment and in turn is certain to have on impact
on mature markets. However, as emerging markets
experience changes in labor, materials, energy and
sustainability costs, PRIMIR anticipates there may be
shifts in production (manufacturing as well as pack-
aging) within or from the regions back to developed
markets. This study will explore the potential
changes and impacts on printed packaging both do-
mestically as well as in emerging markets.
Pack Expo
Expands Show Floor
PMMI, the Association for Packaging and Processing
Technologies, the owner and producer of PACK
EXPO Las Vegas, taking place September 23–25 at the
Las Vegas Convention Center, is again expanding the
show floor.
More than 1,600 processing and packaging solu-
tions providers are on board to occupy more than
700,000 net square feet, making the 2013 edition the
largest PACK EXPO Las Vegas since the event first
opened in 1995.
Exhibitor numbers are up 15 percent to date, and
the floor itself has expanded by 12 percent com-
pared to the 2011 Las Vegas show.
Attendance is expected to well exceed 26,000 man-
ufacturing professionals from the baking and snack,
beverage, confectionery, pharmaceutical and other in-
dustries, a 10 percent increase over 2011 numbers.
