Apex North America
Apex North America has made several additions to
its sales team.
David Root concentrates on the Towel, Tissue and
Napkin sector.An FTA Board Member with more than
three decades of experience in the printing industry,
his focus is on introducing Apex and GTT into the
special niche market of Towel, Bath Tissue and Nap-
kin Converting, along with Glue Laminations.
David McBeth, who specializes in the Corrugated
sector for Apex North America, has been in printing
since he was an 18-year old apprentice, and in Flexo
since 1996. A former technical committee member of
the EFTA (European Flexographic Technical Associa-
tion), his primary goal is to bring in his contacts at
Multinational and OEM levels, and to develop the GTT
market from the ground up.
Key account manager Mark Sherk is a 33-year veter-
an of the printing industry, 10 of which have been
spent in sales.
Douglas Burich has joined the company to look
after clients in the Northern, Central and Midwest
arenas. He will also manage certain key accounts na-
tionally. Burich has worked in a number of capacities
in the packaging industry, most recently selling flexo
printing presses and gravure coaters.

To Reach $119 Billion
The global market for beverage packaging is project-
ed to reach US$118.8 billion by the year 2017, with
beverage consumption trends and environmental is-
sues influencing the demand scenario, according to
Global Industry Analysts, Inc. In addition, the advent
of innovative and convenient packaging formats using
minimal resources is likely to foster consumption of
various beverage packaging material and formats.
RFID-Enabled ‘Smart’ Paper
Researchers North Dakota State University have de-
veloped a process called Laser Enabled Advanced
Packaging (LEAP), a method of embedding RFID chips
in paper. The technique has potential for preventing
anti-counterfeiting. In this process, lasers are used to
transfer as well as assemble the chips on the paper.
The paper would thus be called a “smart paper,”which
in turn can be used for various purposes such as smart
labels, banknotes, tickets and legal documents.
