Comexi Holds South
American Packaging Seminar
Comexi Group attracted attendees from more than
companies to its first flexible packaging seminar
in South America, which took place at the end of Oc-
tober in the Colombian capital of Bogotá.
The event was organized by the Comexi Group
Manel Xifra Boada Technological Center with support
from the company’s representative in Colombia, No-
vaflex. Companies from many other South American
countries such as Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica and Do-
minican Republic were also present.The seminar was
delivered in two parts, with the first focused on flexo
printing, and the second on lamination and slitting.
Presentations were given by Comexi technicians, as
well as speakers from Siegwerk and Morchem in the
area of inks and adhesives respectively.
Amcor Wins Sustainability
Award For Flexible Packaging
Amcor was awarded a 2012 Supplier Sustainability
Award from Johnson & Johnson (J&J). Amcor Rigid
Plastics, which produces rigid plastic containers, and
Amcor Flexibles, reportedly the world’s largest sup-
plier of flexible packaging, were jointly recognized
for their overall sustainability efforts and targeted ac-
tivities as a leading supplier to J&J.Amcor was one of
seven award winners in the worldwide competition
held by J&J, which has a global supplier base of more
than 100,000 companies. Of those, 43 were nominat-
ed for the sustainability award.

Tackles Food Security, Waste
Food security and waste are focal themes of the
North American edition of the Sustainable Foods Sum-
mit, taking place in San Francisco, California, January
22-23, 2013.
With the global population expected to
rise to 9 billion in 2050, some argue the answer lies
not just in increased food production levels but
greater efficiency.According to the Food & Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO UN), about a
third of food produced for human consumption is lost
or wasted. In the U.S., wastage accounts for about 121
billion pounds of food with about two-thirds going to
landfill.At the same time, 48 million Americans live in
households that struggle to feed themselves. Senior ex-
ecutives from FAO UN, FoodWaste Reduction Alliance,
Whole Foods Market, Unified Grocers and Daabon Or-
ganic, will discuss food waste reduction schemes,
landfill diversion methods and food rescue programs
in the tackling food waste session.
